Alice Lachance

With great sadness the family of Alice I. LaChance announces her passing on August 12, 2022 at the Alice Center, Malone, NY.  The daughter of the late Arthur and Mina Cox Goyea, she was born March 11, 1929 in North Bangor, NY.  She was 93.

Alice had many hobbies including quilting, sewing, knitting and crocheting. She was a member of the Franklin County Home Bureau and the Brass Thimble Quilters where she shared her love of crafting with others. Alice was a member of St. Mary’s Altar & Rosary Society and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church of Brushton. She enjoyed reading the bible and prayed daily. In her spare time she kept busy puzzling, reading, berry picking, baking and traveling. She was always up for a “leaf ride” or a “bear hunt,” especially if it included a stop for ice cream. Most of all Alice loved spending time with her family.

Alice was a dedicated professional.  After graduating high school at age 16 she studied to become a Registered Nurse at The A. Barton Hepburn Hospital and Nursing School in Ogdensburg. She lived and worked in New York City before returning to the North Country to continue her career.  She retired from Alice Hyde Hospital where she was a head nurse in the ICU for many years.

Survivors include her daughters, Paula Niles and her husband Terry of Brushton, NY, Jill Agne and her companion Dominic Amato of Brewerton, NY, Jody Southworth and her companion Greg Dumas of Malone, NY, and Jackie Harris and her husband Elton of Roscoe, NY; her grandchildren, Paul Niles (Brandi), Ryan Niles (Lara), Graham Niles (Jamie), Kristen Hill (Jeff), Julie Butler (Michael), Melissa Venner (John), Martin Southworth (Rachel), Adam Southworth (Meagan), Chelsea Southworth, Katie Lombardi (Brad), Kendra Constant (Chris), Michelle Russell, Eric Hazen, and Leanna Hazen; two step sons, Clyde Streeter (Ellen) and Brad Streeter (Sheila); three stepdaughters, Donna Hornick (Dave), Diane Fleury (Jack) and Judy Hammel (James); several great grandchildren; her brother, Ronald Goyea; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Paul Follett, George Streeter, and Raymond LaChance; her siblings, Marjorie Gonyea Laidlaw, Helen Ploof, Wayne “Jay” Goyea; and Glenda Sartwell.
