Barbara Walker

Barbara B. Walker of Liberty, NY, a life long area resident, died Thursday, January 4, 2024 at her home; with her family at her side.  She was 94.

The daughter of the late Anton and Aleksa Zebrowski Brisky, she was born April 16, 1929 in Slate Hill, NY.

Barbara was a retired Registered Nurse for over 60 years; she worked for Sullivan County Public Health and various hospitals.  Barbara was a communicant of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Liberty, NY; she was a member of the Catholic Daughter’s of America; and she had been a volunteer and gym teacher at St. Peter’s School.  She helped with interfaith dinners for over 40 years; was a former Girl Scout Leader.  In 1956 she was the President of the Jayncees of Middletown, NY.  She also participated in many fundraisers during WWII.  She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting and reading.

Survivors include her daughters, Laura Safford and her husband Craig of Hanover, PA, Sarah Walker of Liberty, NY and Judy Spafford and her husband Mike of Liberty, NY; her grandchildren, David Safford, Kevin Safford and his wife Erika, Jenny Walker, Theresa Uciechowski and her Family, Stephanie Donaghy and her partner Mike Paliocha, Adam Donaghy and his wife Caroline and Benjamin Donaghy and his wife Xinyue Zhang; her great grandchildren, Raelyn Donaghy, Penelope Safford and Hugo Safford; one sister, Celene McCourtney; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Benjamin G. Walker, Jr.; brothers and sisters, Mary, Jessie, Tress, Frank, Hank and Rick; and one son-in-law, John Griesbeck.

Visitation will be Friday, January 12, 2024 from 4 to 7 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.  The Catholic Daughter’s will begin prayers at 7 PM in the funeral home.

A Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be Celebrated on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 10 AM in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 246 No. Main Street, Liberty, NY.

Burial will be in Poplar Grove Cemetery, Phillipsport, NY.

Memorial contributions in Barbara’s name may be made to St. Peter’s Church, 264 No. Main Street, Liberty, NY 12754 or to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Ct. Newburgh, NY 12550.
