Carol M. Simons, a resident of Liberty, NY for 60-plus years, entered peacefully into rest at her home on June 26, 2024. She was surrounded by her daughter Kim M. Simons, her grandson Corey Hanson, and her granddaughter Kayliegh Harte. She was 89.
Born Carol Martha Ost in Brooklyn on Christmas Day in 1934 (hence the name Carol) to William and Evelyn (Storer) Ost, Carol married Jack I Simons in 1958 and settled in Liberty. Both she and her husband were active members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9217, as well as the Ontario Hose Co. #3 volunteer fire department.
Carol was predeceased by her brothers Ken, George, and Bill Ost, as well as her beloved husband Jack and her oldest son, Craig. Survivors include Kim and her husband; Kayliegh, her husband, and their four children; and Corey. Also surviving are two sons, David and Grant Simons, as well as a daughter, Gail Fairbairn and their spouses and children.
Anyone who knew Carol could tell a hundred stories about her impish sense of humor. She always loved a good time, and lived a life filled with parties, dancing, and card games, surrounded by friends. She was also a gifted clothing designer and artist who always dressed stylishly at home just in case a visitor dropped by. Christmas, of course, was invariably a special day for her.
Carol was a hard worker, involved in charitable causes. She labored on any number of VFW dinners and firehouse clam bakes over the years. Her boundless energy, MacGyver-like ability to solve problems, and well-timed jokes always delighted her fellow volunteers.
Visitation will be at Harris Funeral Home, West Street at Buckley in Liberty NY, on July 9, 2024 from 11 AM to 1 PM with a service to follow. Carol will be buried next to her husband Jack in Sullivan County Veteran’s Cemetery, Sunset Lake Road, Liberty.
Memorial contributions in Carol’s name may be made to the Liberty Fire Department, the VFW Auxiliary, or Devin Michael Housman Memorial Scholarship.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY 845-292-0001 or 845-439-5200 www.Harris-FH.com
