Chester Davis Jr., a lifelong resident of Swan Lake, NY, passed away at home on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 after a long illness, one week shy of his 84th birthday. He was the son of the late Chester Sr. and Isabelle (King) Davis, born on July 6, 1938 in Swan Lake.
A graduate of Liberty Central High School, Chet proudly served in the U.S. Army in the late 1950’s. He would go on to drive trucks for Schmidt’s Wholesale, Armored Car for Killian Transfer, and deliver mail for the U.S. Postal Service in Swan Lake before spending 32 years working for the Sullivan County Department of Public Works as a bridge carpenter. All the while, he worked the family farm. Chet was a member of the Liberty Elks Lodge #1545 for many years and a member of the Swan Lake Fire Department for 51 years. He was a local fixture, a real character with a story to tell and a funny quip to be delivered.
Chet is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anita (Wolff) Davis, at home; a son, Dean (John Argueso) of Naples, FL and Swan Lake, NY; a son, Paul (LaDonna) of Cypress, TX; a granddaughter, Amelia, of Waco, TX; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his five siblings: Lois Davis, Rev. Kenneth Davis, Ethel Gabrielsen, William Davis, Richard Davis; and his brother-in-law, Richard Gabrielsen.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 11th from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Swan Lake Hose Co. #1, Swan Lake, NY 12783 in Chet’s name.
