D. Scott Simpson

D. Scott Simpson of Liberty, NY, a retired UC & M Chief for New York State Electric and Gas Company and a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at his home. He was 64.

The son of Etta M. Schleiermacher Barbanti and the late Dean F. Simpson, he was born December 22, 1959 in Liberty, NY.

Scott was an amazing son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. If anyone needed help, he would not hesitate to drop what he was doing to lend a hand. He loved family time and after his four grandchildren were born, would do anything to be at each and every milestone or event. He loved anything that involved being outdoors and was especially content when mowing the lawn. Scott seemed to have a connection to nearly everyone he met and he never forgot a name once he met you. While generally a man of few words, he always seemed to have the right words or advice to share. His passing will leave a void in all those who knew and loved him.

Scott was a charter member of the Raccoon Hunting Club, a member of the Sullivan County Trail Association, a member and officer of the Wild Meadow Game Preserve, a member of the Aden Night Rider Snowmobile Club, a member of the Liberty Elk’s Lodge #1545 and he was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan and outdoorsman.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Debora A. Frick Simpson at home; his daughter, Erin Wells and her husband Rob of Virginia Beach, VA; his son, Jeffrey Simpson and his wife Kim of Mountain Top, PA; his mother, Etta Barbanti of Liberty, NY; his sister, Tami VanLeuven of Liberty, NY; four grandchildren, Genevieve, Finley, Grant, and Greta; and several nieces and nephews.
