Donald F. Nichols of Parksville, NY a retired facility manager at the Livingston Manor Central School and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at his home. He was 80.
The son of the late John B. and Irma Schillinger Nichols, he was born August 6, 1941 in Liberty, NY.
Donald proudly served Our Country in the US Navy and served as a 2nd Lieutenant and Navel Aviator; he was a member and Past Chief of the Liberty Fire Department - J.C. Young Hose Company #1; a Commissioner for the Liberty Fire District; a member of the Town of Liberty Zoning Board of Appeals; a member of the Liberty Elk’s Lodge # 1545; and he was a member of the Liberty First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Rogers Nichols, at home; two sons, Richard “Ricky” Nichols of Liberty, NY and John L. Nichols and his wife Francine of Parksville, NY; six grandchildren, Blake Costa, Joshua Costa, Brooke Nichols, Dylan Nichols, Amanda Nichols, and John Byron Nichols; and seven great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Sherry Tompkins Nichols; one son, Donald F. Nichols, Jr.; and one brother, John S. Nichols.
Memorial services with Firematic and Elk’s services will be Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 11 AM in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY. Pastor Virginia Bossley will officiate. Burial with military honors will be at the Liberty Cemetery, Liberty, NY.
Memorial contributions in his name may be made to Liberty First Presbyterian Church, 81 So. Main Street, Liberty, NY 12754 or to the J.C. Young Hose Co. #1, 256 Sprague Ave. Liberty, NY 12754.
