Doris M. Marks of Livingston Manor, NY, a retired Cafeteria Manager for Livingston Manor Central School and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, NY. She was 84.

The daughter of the late Leon and Lucy Bussey Sherwood, she was born December 31, 1927 in Liberty, NY.

Doris was a member of the Sullivan County, New York State, and Federal School Food Service Association; a member of the Livingston Manor Presbyterian Church and a part of the United Presbyterian Women's Association; a member of Sarah Wells Girl Scout Council for over 50 years; she was a member of the Manor Hose Company - Ladies Auxiliary; a member of the Sullivan County Historical Society; several RV groups and many other organizations.

She was predeceased by her husband Frederick Marks; one son, Paul Marks; one brother, Earl Sherwood; and one granddaughter, Katrina Marks Grimm. She was also predeceased by her longtime companion, Wilson DeWitt.

Family members remember her as a kind, thoughtful and loving woman who spoke her mind in a forthright manner. Family and friends enjoyed visiting Doris and listening to stories of her life long ago. In her later years she was known as "Nanny" to many more than family.

Doris graduated Livingston Manor Central School and entered Delhi College at age 16. By age 18 she was graduated from Delhi Food Service Program and employed as school lunch manager at Montgomery, NY school system. She later returned to Livingston Manor Central School as a school lunch employee and retired as the Cafeteria Manager in 1986. During her years of school and community service, Doris touched the lives and hearts of many.

Traveling was one of her greatest pleasures, from taking her scouts on camping trips to places like Cape Cod and Savannah, GA, to RVing her way through Mexico, Canada, Alaska, and all over the US from Nova Scotia to the Baja Peninsula. At age 76 Doris struck out for Australia where she visited one of her past girl scouts and spent 5 months camping about in a rather artfully painted van. Doris made the annual pilgrimage across the US to winter in Why, AZ for the last 20 years. She will be missed by the friends she made wherever she roamed.
