Elinor France

Elinor J. France of Horton Brook, NY, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident died Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton, NY. She was 91.

The daughter of the late Glenn R. and Mable E. Gregory Harris, she was born February 25, 1924 in the Town of Sanford, NY.

Elinor was a member of the Horton Brook Free Methodist Church where she had been a Sunday School Teacher for over 60 years; she served as the church's secretary and treasurer for many years. Recently, she had attended the Calvary Community Church in Johnson City, NY. Elinor enjoyed gardening, reading, and watching small wild life and birds. Over the years, Elinor had been a foster mother to numerous children.

Survivors include two daughters, Gail Gunsalus and her husband James of Vestal, NY and Cindy Hotaling and her husband Allen of Franklin, NY; one son, Terry France and his wife Jackie of Roscoe, NY; six grandchildren, Scott Gunsalus, Jonathan Gunsalus, Craig France and his wife Michelle, Brad France and his wife Jessie, Daniel Hotaling and Amy Murwin and her husband Randy; six great grandchildren, Joshua, Tyler, Emily, Josaline, Allison, and Noah; several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband, Everett France; three sisters; and one brother.

Visitation will be Monday, February 22, 2016 from 4-7 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Avenue, Roscoe, NY.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 11AM in the funeral home. The Rev. Yancey Brown will officiate.

Burial will be in the Horton Cemetery, Horton, NY in the Spring.

Memorial contributions in Elinor's name may be made to the Horton Brook Free Methodist Church, 110 Fuller Hill Road, Roscoe, NY 12776.
