Ellen Loizeaux of Beaverkill, NY, the retired owner of the Shop in the Valley in Roscoe, died Monday, May 21, 2012 at the home of her daughter Siobhan "Sam" Bennett in Allentown, PA with her loving family at her side. She was 76.
The daughter of the late Timothy R. and Florence Douglas Loizeaux she was born in Plainfield, NJ. She was a 1953 graduate of Plainfield High School in Plainfield, NJ, and a graduate of the State University College at Oneonta with a degree in Elementary Education.
Ellen had been a long time resident of the Beaverkill Valley. Prior to moving to Beaverkill, she had been a teacher for the Upstate Home for Children in Oneonta, NY. She had been actively involved in her community including being a member of the Beaverkill Methodist Church, a member of the Roscoe-Rockland Chamber of Commerce, a former member of the Town of Rockland and Sullivan County Democratic Committee, and a member of Sullivan County Community Chorus.
Ellen was an avid flower and vegetable gardener, a frequent visitor to the Roscoe Free Library, and enjoyed knitting and crocheting for family members, especially her grandchildren who each received afghans for their high school graduations. With her loving husband Mike, Ellen was a passionate international traveler (staying at youth hostels well into her seventies), a wilderness camper (especially loving Chincoteague Island, home of the wild horses), and resident of "Le nid d'oiseau", the family home in Beaverkill, NY.
Survivors include her loving husband of 35 years, Mike Loizeaux , at home; a son and two daughters, John T. Bennett of Phoenix, AZ, Drieux Koeppel of Vestal, NY and Siobhan "Sam" Bennett of Allentown, PA; her grandchildren Emma Selina Tipping, Karl-Wilhelm Koeppel, Rachael Ellen Tipping, Paul-Franz Koeppel, Thomas J. Bennett, Kelsey Marie Bennett, Zane Ondavcik, and David Bennett Estrada. She was predeceased by one brother, Timothy R. Loizeaux, Jr. and is survived by her loving sister Nancy L. Pricer and loving brother Captain Drew Loizeaux.
Visiting hours will be on Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Harris Funeral Home Railroad Ave., Roscoe, NY., from 2pm to 4pm and from 7pm to 9pm.
Funeral services and a Celebration of Ellen's Life will be 11 am Saturday May 26, 2012 in the Beaverkill Methodist Church, Beaverkill, NY; the Beaverkill Church Lay Speaker Mary Hall officiating.
Burial will be in the Beaverkill Cemetery, Beaverkill, NY,immediately following the services.
