Elsie Tate

Elsie H. Tate of White Sulphur Springs, NY, a retired hairdresser and a lifelong area resident died Sunday, May 17, 2015 at her home. She was 86.

The daughter of the late Isaac T. and Hazel Bowers Hogencamp, she was born January 28, 1929 in White Sulphur Springs, NY. Hazel passed away a month after Elsie's birth and a year later "Ike" married Maude DeWitt who became a loving stepmother to Elsie.

Elsie graduated from Liberty High School in 1945. In her early teens, she joined and became a lifetime active member of The United Methodist Church in White Sulphur Springs where she was a member of the "Pairs and Shares" group; she was a charter member of the White Sulphur Springs Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary; she was a member of the White Sulphur Springs Senior Citizens; she enjoyed crafts and volunteering at the church luncheons.

Elsie was married to Donald J. Tate on May 2, 1948. After 63 years of a wonderful marriage, Don passed away on December 21, 2010. Elsie is also predeceased by her daughter, Marie Rosencranse and a sister, Eleanor Grant.

Survivors include one son, Thomas Tate and his wife Linda of Liberty, NY; one brother, Lester "Bucky" Hogencamp and his wife Susan of White Sulphur Springs, NY; three grandsons, Travis Rosencranse and his wife Siobhan of Slingerlands, NY, Justin Tate and Trevor Tate of White Sulphur Springs, NY; one granddaughter, Erin McKelvy and her husband Jason of Watervaliet, NY; two great granddaughters, Teagan and Caolain Rosencranse of Slingerlands, NY; one niece, Eileen Hogencamp; and one nephew, Chuck Hogencamp and his wife Sandra.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 19, 2015 from 4-7 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 11 AM in the White Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church, Route 52, White Sulphur Springs, NY. The Rev. Bridgette LeConey will officiate.

Burial will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, White Sulphur Springs, NY.
