Today we dwell among the memories of our mother, Ethel C. (Harris) Heins and her "little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love"*. The daughter of the late Fred and Mae (Rogers) Harris, Mom was born March 27th, 1914, in a farm house in Harris, NY --- named after her grandfather Issac Harris. She passed away on May 21st, 2014, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center after a long illness. Mom will have come full circle --- laid to rest in the Harris-Brookside Cemetery --- just across the spot where she was born --- after a brief ceremony at the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY, 11:00 AM, June 2nd. The Rev. Bridgette LeConey will officiate. Contributions may be made to the Harris-Brookside Cemetery, P.O.B. 221, Monticello, NY 12701.
Mom is survived by one son, Clark Heins and his wife Phyllis of Monticello, NY; twin daughters, Karen Barone and her companion Dominick Nuzzo of Monticello, NY, and Kathy Cibull and her husband Dr. Michael Cibull of Nicholasville, KY; two grandchildren, Barbara Barone Font and her husband Patrick Font of Monticello, NY, and Dr. Tom Cibull and his wife Dr. Antonette (Thomas) Cibull of Evanston, IL; three great grandchildren, Reese Kelly, Russell Font, and Haley Cibull. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years Dr. Carl K. Heins, her brother Donald Harris, her son-in-law George Barone, and her beloved 3rd grandchild Christopher Cibull. The family also wishes to express its thanks to Mom's niece Nancy (Harris) Solow for helping take care of Mom over these last few years along with her home health aides Shannon Dibble and Lillian Magie.
Mom's last letter to us was addressed to our sister Karen on her 91st birthday in 2005: It read, "Today I am 91. I can't see. Karen, because I love you, I am doing it my way trying to alleviate some stress. Remember me alive because I will be close always in all your hearts. Keep a watch on the cemetery if you are able to. Protect my dolls as Barbara might want them some day. I love my kids --- Clark, Karen, Kathy, Chris, Tommy and Barbara and them that come later. Wish Mike, Phyllis and George happiness. You did a good job picking them. God Bless you all, Mom."
We, Mom's children, wish we had enough time to recount all of the adventures and experiences that she had throughout her life. Suffice it to say that Mom's life had "no slight or trivial influence"*; for, whatever we may have been, or may become, we owe to her --- "the anchor of our purest thoughts, the nurse, the guide, the guardian of our hearts and souls, of all our moral being."*
Goodbye Mom
