Florence Brining

Florence E. Brining of Roscoe, NY, a retired office manager for the Sullivan County Clerk's Office and a lifelong area resident, passed away peacefully, Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Groton Regency Nursing Home, Groton, CT near her son. She was 97.

The daughter of the late Norman H. and Cassimera Herzog Mulley, she was born December 7, 1914 in Apex, NY.

Of her 97 years, she had been in good health to the end except for an occasional trip to the hospital, in more recent years. She was married to her husband John for 58 years, he predeceased her in 1989. They were active members of the United Church of Roscoe for many years. Florence worked for the county and became Office Manager after 14 years. She retired at 55 and planned to do a lot of traveling. Every winter she and John would spend six months at Hawaiian Isles Park in Ruskin FL. Florence continued to spend the winters in FL with her friends until 2008. The summers were spent in Roscoe, NY enjoying the beauty of the mountains. Florence's hobbies were planting flowers, fly tying, wood carving, painting, and tatting. She won numerous trophies in Shuffle Board Tournaments while in Florida. Her favorite board games were Sequence and Dominos, which she was ready to play at any moment.

Survivors include one son, Richard Brining and his wife Carol of Old Lyme, CT; one grandson, Jeffery Brining and his wife Lisa of East Haddam, CT; and one great-grandson, Christopher Brining, now 3 years old.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 12, 2012 from 4 - 6 PM in the Harris Funeral Home Railroad Ave. Roscoe, NY.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 13, 2012 at 11 AM in the funeral home. The Rev. David Collins will officiate.

Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Roscoe, NY.
