Florence Elizabeth “Flo” Wood Leewe of Hortonville, NY died peacefully on January 20, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Flo was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her. Born to Grace Gaudette Wood & Malvin Wood on March 8, 1937, in Callicoon, NY, she was a lifelong resident. She was a 1955 graduate of Delaware Valley, where she met the love of her life, Art.
Flo was always the life of the party, along with her 8 sisters. If you heard one of them, you knew it was one of the Wood girls just by the sound of their contagious laughs. She enjoyed golfing, Tai Chi, water aerobics, gardening, wintering in Homosassa, FL and spending time with her family.
Flo spent 33 years serving with the US Postal Service, ending her career as the Postmaster in Callicoon. She took pride in her work and always had a welcoming smile. She and her staff enjoyed decorating the Callicoon train station for the holidays each year. She and Art spent their time contributing to the Callicoon and Hortonville communities, including her 35 years with Kiwanis, volunteering with the fire and ambulance corps, and serving on the election committee.
Survivors include her son Michael (Jeanne), grandsons Brian (Kristen), Matthew (Amy), and John (Missy) Kitson, Jason (Lutao) & Eric Leewe, granddaughter Megan (Chris) Kitson, great-grandchildren Dominic & Gianni Gagliardo, Drew & Flora Kitson, Aiden & Blake Leewe, her ‘adopted’ granddaughter Katrina Graby LaGrutta, her companion of 20 years Joe Borowski, sisters Leona Hunt, Donna Donatelli, Joy Thies, and Prudy Robisch, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Art, her parents, her stepfather, Albert Hillriegel, her daughter, Linda Kitson, her sister-in-law, Joan Leewe, her sisters Fay Mears, Shirley Barnes, Jean Molusky, Nancy Eggler, and her brother Lawrence “Arnie” Wood.
Flo’s family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at the Roscoe Nursing Home for taking care of her in her last days with us.
