Gail Stone

Gail S. Stone of Downsville, NY, a retired employee of Bard-Parker in Hancock, NY and a life long area resident lost her battle with COPD on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at the Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, NY. She was 69.

The daughter of Mildred Pewterbaugh Shields and the late Denton Shields, she was born July 21, 1943 in Walton, NY.

Gail was a member of the Colchester Community Church in Downsville and she is a former member of St. Mary's Pinochle Club. Known best as Mimi to her friends and family, Gail enjoyed her family first and foremost in addition to birdwatching, gardening, reading, and NASCAR.

Survivors include her husband Jerry G. Stone, whom she married January 17, 1960 in Downsville, at home; two sons, Kevin Stone and his wife Jackie of Calhoun City, Mississippi and Dale Stone and his wife Brenda of Downsville, NY; two daughters, Lori Hale and her husband Kenneth of Amenia, NY and Julie Breakey and her husband Walter of Millis, MA; her mother, Mildred Shields of Downsville, NY; two brothers, James Shields and his wife Beverly of Downsville, NY and Thomas Shields and his wife Lavonne of Downsville, NY; two sisters, Sally Braitling and her husband Joseph of Saugerties, NY and Priscilla Staruchowicz and her husband Robert of Downsville, NY; brother-in-law Mike Stone and his wife Kelly of Downsville, NY; eight grandchildren (Blake, Jerilyn, and Dustin Hale; Kayla and Jared Stone; Stone, Lucas, and Aidan Breakey) two step-grandchildren (Daphne Warren and Jennifer Armstrong) in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, February 8, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Harris Funeral Home Railroad Ave., Roscoe, NY.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 11 AM in the Colchester Community Church 15151 Route 30 (Main Street), Downsville, NY. The Rev. Dale Ashby will officiate.

Burial will be in the Paige Cemetery, Downsville, NY in the Spring.
