With great sadness the family of Glenda Goyea Sartwell announce her passing on August 9, 2019 at the Alice Center surrounded by the family that she loved beyond words. Glenda was born February 1, 1938 in North Bangor, the fourth child of Arthur and Mina Cox Goyea. She lived her entire life in this area.
Glenda was united in marriage with John (Corky) Sartwell on May 7, 1977 and together they owned and operated Skinny’s Inn in Moira. Upon selling that business they resided on the Eddy Road in North Bangor. Corky predeceased her on May 2, 2006.
She was also predeceased by her parents, her sisters Marjorie Goyea Gonyea Laidlaw and Helen Goyea Ploof, and a brother Wayne “Jay” Goyea.
Glenda was a life long member of the DAV and was very active in that organization since Corky was a veteran. She has been a member of the American Legion, Franklin County Home Bureau, and most recently served on the board of the Brushton-Moira Senior Citizens.
Glenda had numerous hobbies that she enjoyed. She is best known for her beautiful cross stitch pieces which she generously shared with family members. She also did quilting, knitting, and crocheting. Glenda enjoyed crossword puzzles, a good book, picking berries, traveling especially to Florida with Corky during the winter months. She was always up for a trip to the Casino and her favorite game of chance, Bingo. She and her husband took great pride in growing and canning their own produce from a larger than needed garden. Glenda enjoyed driving her car especially on the back roads. And in the past few years she enjoyed Sunday dinners with her sister Alice at her niece’s home.
That brings us to the family members she loved and are left to mourn her passing. Glenda left them with a multitude of fond memories. She is survived by her sister Alice LaChance of Moira and a brother Ronald (Sharon) Goyea of North Bangor. She was always “Aunt Glen” to her nieces and nephews, the Follett sisters Paula (Terry) Niles, Jill Agne, Jody Southworth, Jackie (Elton) Harris, and Kamie (Lee) Hazen, Ronald Goyea Jr., Jimmy Goyea, Lynn (John) Humphries, Wayne (Anna) Goyea Jr., Marilyn (Patrick) Esmond, Roger (Holly) Goyea, and Greg (Shannon) Goyea. Step-daughters Susan Turner and Colleen (Conrad) Frosch. Two step-sons Kelly and Shawn Sartwell. Many great nieces and nephews and four step-grandchildren all of whom knew they were considered to be her very own; and one step great grandchild. She loved her family unconditionally. She also leaves behind her little poodle Sophie which has been a great source of companionship for her.
Glenda has spent the past twelve years on a very difficult journey medically speaking. The family would like to thank the EMT’s from the Bangor Fire and Rescue, the staff at Main Street Medical and at the Alice Hyde Hospital where she made weekly visits. All of these people became part of her extended family and like her family she came to love them. You deserve our deepest gratitude. In lieu of flowers we ask that you consider a donation to the Bangor Fire and Rescue, in her memory.
Calling hours will be from 10 to 11 AM at St. Mary’s Church in Brushton on Tuesday August 20, 2019. A funeral mass will follow at 11 AM with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved Corky.
