Harry Wilcox

Harry L. Wilcox of Fremont, NY, a farmer and maple syrup producer at the Wilcox Farm and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, March 27, 2011 at the Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, NY. He was 82.

The son of the late James and Katherine Stoesser Wilcox, he was born June 3, 1928 in the Town of Fremont, NY.

Harry was a charter member and still active in the Fremont-Hankins Fire Department, he served the fire district as Fire Commissioner for over 50 years; he was a member of the board of directors of the Callicoon Co-Op Insurance Company; he was a trustee for the Fremont Center Cemetery Board; and he served on many state and local farm committees.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor E. Kellam Wilcox, at home, whom he married in 1952; four sons, Daniel Wilcox and his wife Martha of Fremont, NY, Earl Wilcox and his wife Karen of Roscoe, NY, John Wilcox and his wife Lynne of Fremont, NY, and James Wilcox of Fremont, NY; two sisters, Helen Stewart and her husband Kenneth of Roscoe, NY, and Rose Hendrickson and her companion Edward Miller of Oneonta, NY; seven grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one sister, Shirley Bunt.

Visitation will be Wednesday (today), March 30, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Harris Funeral Home Railroad Ave. Roscoe, NY.

Firematic services will be Wednesday (this evening) at 7 PM in the funeral home.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 11 AM in the funeral home. Pastor Lucas Stickle will officiate.

Burial will be in the Fremont Center Cemetery, Fremont Center, NY.

Memorial contributions in his name may be made a charity of one's choice.
