Hector Rivera

Hector L. Rivera of Sundown, NY, a retired employee in the Laundry Department at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, NY passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, NY.  He was 65.

The son of the late Marino and Carmen Vasquez Rivera, he was born September 25, 1952 in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

Hector had many nicknames and his family and friends often referred to him as Scooby, Abi or David; he enjoyed fishing, back in the day.  He had a “green thumb” and was wonderful gardener.

Survivors include his wife, Grace A. Newman Rivera, at home; his children, Carlos Rivera, Hector Rivera, Tanya Rivera and Rebecca Rivera; his parents-in-law, Barry and Carol Newman; three sisters-in-law, Gloria Cargill and her husband Wayne, Patty Kearns and her husband John, and Terri Dertinger and her husband Jake; one brother-in-law, Richard Vail and his wife Carrie; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Santos Rivera, Israel Rivera, Ivan Rivera and Blanco Torres.

Funeral services will be private.
