Helen Degroot

The Lord received another beautiful soul.  Helen D. DeGroot of Liberty, NY, a retired School Bus Driver for the Liberty Central School District and a long time area resident died Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at her home.  She was 91.

The daughter of the late George T. and Helen H. Statts Morris, she was born October 24, 1925 in Johnson City, NY.

Helen had worked as a house cleaner, cared for the elderly in their homes, and worked at the Liberty A & P.  She was a member of the White Sulphur Springs Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.  She enjoyed "Circle the Word" Puzzles and playing cards.  Her family will remember her as having a love for her birds and being the best mom, grandmother and great grandmother in the world.

Survivors include three daughters, Carol Abplanalp and her husband Daniel of Youngsville, NY, Ruth DeGroot Cole of Ferndale, NY, and Linda Kerzmann and her husband Roger, Sr. of Rimrock, AZ; a half sister, Madeline Murphy of Washington State; eight grandchildren, Tammy, Thomas, Tracy, Jimmy, Robyn, Susie, Donald, Jr., and Roger, Jr.; nine great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph L. DeGroot on Oct. 17, 1987 and by a sister, Shirley DeGraw.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 6-9 PM in the Harris Funeral Home West Street at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

Funeral services will be Friday, June 16, 2017 at 11 AM in the funeral home.  Pastor Robin Sostak will officiate.

Burial will be in the Sullivan County Veteran's Cemetery, Sunset Lake Road Liberty, NY
