Hester Mae Singleton of Monticello, NY a home health aide and a long time area resident, died Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025 at Garnet Health Medical Center, Middletown, NY. She was 75.
The daughter of the late Kizzie Rivers and Jacob Granger, she was born on February 11, 1950 in Georgetown, GA. At the age of 11, she moved to 157th & Linden Blvd, in Jamaica Queens with her mom and seven siblings. Hester went to Shimar High School, where she later met and married her late husband, Johnny L. Singleton, May 21, 1966.
Johnny and Hester, moved to Queens Bridge House and grew their family with four children; their first child, Johnny L. Singleton, Jr. was laid to rest on Ocrtober 9, 2024.
Hester leaves to mourn, her Daughter Madinah (Sharon) Singleton-Alomar, two sons, James L.Singleton and Thomas L. Singleton Sr; four grandchildren, Luvenia H.S Boynton, Dominique L. Dupree, Thomas L Singleton Jr. and Paxton Singleton, four great grandchildren, Steven Boynton (12), Leenia Boynton (9), Nylee K. Dupree (8), Selena Boynton (6), two sisters-in-law, Dyenither Rivers and Lizzie Rivers; one brother-in-law, Bobby J. Green, Sr. Hester took on three kids who cared for and loved her, Tina McEachern, Barbra Etheridge- Stukes and Cicely Flood; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be Friday, May 2, 2025 from 10 AM to 11:45 AM in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY. Funeral services will begin at 12 Noon in the funeral home. The Rev. Douglas Bowman will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pinelawn Cemetery, Queens, NY.
