Ida Alvarez

Ida Grisel Alvarez of Liberty, NY a Medicaid Service Coordinator for ARC in Liberty and Monticello, NY and a long time area resident, died Friday, September 9, 2022 at her home after fighting a long battle with illness for the past four years.  She was 72.

The daughter of the late Domingo and Margarita Torres Ramos, she was born March 14, 1950 in Jayuya, Puerto Rico.

Ida was a communicant at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Liberty, NY and she worked at the St. Peter’s Food Pantry/Close Closet/Children’s Shop; she enjoyed gardening.  Her favorite time was spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Luis Alvarez, at home; her daughter, Lucy Bohan-Alvarez of Horseheads, NY; her son, Julio Alvarez and his wife Katie of Glen Spey, NY; six grandchildren, Luis, Alex, Charley, Stephen, Cole and Gia; many brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 13, 2022 from 4 to 7 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 11 AM in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 264 No. Main Street, Liberty, NY.  Father Edward Bader will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Liberty, NY.
