Irene Savage

Irene Savage of Ferndale, N.Y., a retired U.S. Postmaster, passed away on June 9, 2024. She was 91. 

She was born in Parksville, N.Y. on April 12, 1933, the daughter of the late Earl Alexander Keator and Helen Gitch Keator. After graduating from Liberty High School, she was employed by N.Y. Telephone before her employment with the U.S. Postal Service. 

She met her husband, Robert Savage, while he was employed by the O&W Railroad which ran behind her family's house. They married on September 19, 1953 in St. Mary's Church in Waymart, P.A. and settled in Ferndale. 

She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, refinishing antiques, and vacationing in Myrtle Beach. She was a member of St. Peter's Church, Liberty. 

Survivors include her daughter, Pamela Winters and her husband Donald; her grandchildren, Donald Winters, Jr. and April Winters, both of Liberty, NY and Randy Lewis of Wallkill, NY; great-grandchildren, Justin Winters of South Fallsburg, NY, Sean Rankin of Liberty, NY and Emilia Rose Lewis of Wallkill, NY; and great-great-granddaughter, Valentina Hope Bonilla Winters of South Fallsburg, NY; one brother, Clyde Keator of Kenoza Lake, NY; one sister-in-law Marian Keator of Liberty, NY; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Savage; her daughter, Susan Savage; one sister, Lillian Callahan; her brothers Kenneth Keator and Benson Keator; and several nieces and nephews. 

At the request of family, services will be private. Dignified cremation provided by Harris Crematorium LLC.
