James Amback

James Reginald Amback of Roscoe, NY, a lifelong area resident, died Palm Sunday, March 20, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. He died on the same property where he was born. He was 89.

The son of the late Henry J. and Ida Peters Amback, he was born Palm Sunday, March 28, 1926 in Roscoe, NY.

Jim had worked for over 30 years as a Superintendent of Grounds at the Tennanah Lake Golf and Tennis Club; he was a former self-employed saw mill operator; former owner of the Roscoe Movie Theater; and a former truck driver. He was a member of the United Church of Roscoe and a communicant of the White Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church; he was a member of the Cornell Cooperative Extension Service; and had been a 4-H leader.

Survivors include his wife, Versa M. Cross Amback, at home; one daughter, Beverly Hesse and her husband Joseph of Roscoe, NY; one son, Roy Amback and his wife Ellen of Livingston Manor, NY; six grandchildren, Mimi Warren (David), Audrey Wheeler (Kort), Heidi Hesse, Charles Amback (Jessica), Liesl Burnham (McCrea), and James Hesse (Jessica); 12 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and one cousin, June Smith.

He was predeceased by one brother, John Amback.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9pm in the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave. Roscoe, NY

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 11 AM in the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Roscoe, NY.
