James E. Lewis died Friday afternoon on March 22, 2024, at his home in Roscoe NY surrounded by family and loved ones. He was 85.
Jimmy was an accomplished and internationally performed composer whose works blended jazz with atonality. He was a sailor, buying his first sailboat in the early 70s, and twice made passage in his second sailboat, his beloved Cheoy Lee, from Florida to Cuba. He was an avid reader and traveler. ‘Vamos a ver’ were words he lived by- Lets go and see!
Jim moved to his second home in San Miguel de Allende in the early 2000’s and quickly developed a close community of friends that became his extended family.
Jim was the only son of the late Eugene B. and Bertha E. Prahl. Jim’s survivors include his son Barton Lewis of Brooklyn; his daughter, Shawn Lewis of Brooklyn; and two grandchildren, Adam Lewis-Bowmen and Zora Lewis-Bowmen.
A memorial service will be held in San Miguel de Allende this summer. Dignified cremation provided by Harris Crematorium, LLC.
