James Pendarvis

James Edward Pendarvis of Hurleyville, NY, a retired Corrections Officer and a longtime area resident was born June 17, 1937 in Meridian, Mississippi and entered into eternal rest on April 23, 2021.  He was predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth Pendarvis and her husband Eugene Pendarvis; by his father, Edward Coleman; his beloved wife, Karin Pendarvis; and his brother, Virgil Emmett Hardy.

He is survived by his daughters, Azizah and Amina; his sons, Michael and his wife Mary, and Andrew and his wife Sonya; his grandchildren, David, Nyemah, Abdullah, Ishmael, Mujahid, Aziza, Jordan, Naaila, Jennifer, and Andrew.  He also leaves behind many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.  James will also be missed by his devoted caregivers and close friends, Reva and Donna.

James was a veteran of the Korean War, where he honorably served in the United States Air Force.  He retired in 1999 from the NY State Department of Corrections, Woodbourne C.F., where he made lifelong friends.  Post retirement, “Jimmy” as he was affectionately called, worked part time at Empire Resorts Racino in Monticello and was a member of the Lions Club.

He was a jovial and light-hearted person with a zest for life and who made friends wherever he went.  He enjoyed watching sports, woodcarving, and talking about current events as well as the occasional date with Lady Luck (Lotto).

Jimmy’s jokes and larger than life laughter will be sorely missed by all that knew him.  We are so grateful for the memories and will cherish them for a lifetime.

Visitation will be Friday, April 30, 2021 from 4-7 PM in the Harris Funeral Home West Street at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 10AM in the funeral home.  Father Edward Bader will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Cold Spring Road, Liberty, NY.
