James S. Sammann of Liberty, NY died on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at his home. Born on December 26, 1959 at Loomis Hospital and graduate of Liberty High School, he was 61. He was the son of the late Edmund and Caroline Bivins Sammann.
James was a lifelong area resident of Liberty, NY, where he chose to raise his daughter Ally. James was a Senior Airman in the U.S. Air Force during the 1980’s working as an Electronics Warfare Specialist. He returned home to work at ShopRite, then later Time Warner Cable, Webmaster for Sullivan County Government, before he found his dream career of 16 years at Sullivan County Community College working as an instructor and Director of IT.
Anybody that knew James quickly learned that his greatest love in life was his daughter, Ally, and more recently his grandchildren, Sam & Fynn. James was the friendliest guy you could ever meet and would often find him visiting friends at local diners, karaoke night at Bum & Kels, or sweating over hot wings at local eateries. He spent much of his time with Ally and his nieces and nephew enjoying the outdoors, taking pictures, flying his drone, attending parades & fairs, and spending time with his family. He very much enjoyed spending time with his co-workers at SCCC both in and out of work and spoke of them often. James was an avid toy collector and entrepreneur; he loved gadgets and was a whiz with electronics. The family would like everyone to remember and smile, remembering James’ favorite expression “You’re kill’in me!”
Survivors include his daughter, Alexandria “Ally” Sammann and her fiance Ethan Meadow; one sister, Mary Ellen Liepins and her husband Egels; his twin grandchildren, Sam and Fynn Meadow; nieces, Kaitlin and Lindsey Rau; and his nephew, Jeremy Rau all residing in Liberty, NY. James was predeceased by his parents, Edmund and Caroline Bivins Sammann; and one brother, Edward Lee Sammann.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 21, 2021 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Harris Funeral Home West Street at Buckley, Liberty, NY. Funeral services will be Sunday evening at 8 PM with the Rev. Paul Minton officiating.
