Jane Margaret McConnin of Roscoe, NY, formerly of Rockville Center, Long Island, died Saturday, March 9, 2013. She was 88.

The daughter of the late William C., Jr. and Dorothea R. Moran Young, she was born on September 16, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY.

Jane was the beloved wife of the late George McConnin. Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen Madavo and her husband Callisto Madavo of Potomac, MD, two granddaughters, Sara Madavo and Emily Madavo, her first cousin, Edward Moran of Long Beach, NY, and many nieces and nephews.

Jane was raised in Brooklyn, NY and attended Bushwick High School. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Hofstra University. In1965, She began teaching elementary school at St. Joseph's in Hewlett, NY and later taught at the Shore Road School in Bellmore, NY. Jane and George bought their home in Roscoe, NY in 1975. When they retired, they moved there permanently. Although initially hesitant to move upstate, Jane grew to love her life in Roscoe. She was involved in many community civic organizations, including the Roscoe-Rockland Garden Club, the Rockland Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary, the Sullivan County Retired Teachers Association, the Bellmore Faculty Organization of Teachers, and the New York State Retired Teachers Association. Jane was an active member of the Gate of Heaven Catholic Church. She had many friends in Roscoe whom she loved dearly . These friendships filled her life with joy and laughter.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 16, 2003 from 10 AM until 11:45 AM in the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave., Roscoe, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 16th at 12 Noon at the Gate of Heaven Church, Highland Ave., Roscoe, NY. Father Edward Bader will officiate.

Burial will be in the St. Aloysius Cemetery, Livingston Manor, NY, followed by a celebration of Jane's life at the Rockland House at 2:30 pm.

Memorial contributions in Jane's name may be made to the R & R Volunteer Ambulance Corp. P. O. Box 321, Roscoe, NY 12776 or to a charity of choice.
