Jerome Black

Jerome Black of Monticello, NY a long-time area resident died Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at the Care Center at Sunset Lake, Liberty, NY. He was 78.

The son of the late Sam and Annie Black, he was born March 7, 1946, in Charleston, SC.

Throughout his career, Jerome held many positions including Working at Hamilton Avenue Hospital, Monticello Raceway, Bogner Seitel Lumber, Flea Market Vendor, Lawn care and snow removal, Jerry’s Cleaning Service, J & J Driving School and Sullivan County Head Start from where he ultimately retired. Jerome was a bus driver for Sullivan County Head Start and Monticello School District, where he was a 19A Certified Bus Driver Trainer. He was a member of the Mission Church of God. 

Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, LaJune O. Williams Black, at home; his children, George Black (wife Angela), Thelma Cowan, Cheryl Black, Lenore Smith, Jerome Black Jr., Tanya Black; his step-children, Linwood Williams and his wife Carmen, Nina Beamon, Tyrone Beamon, and Crystal Tweed and her husband Pedro; his brother, Tom Black; brother, Tom Black, two sisters, Elizabeth Addison and Rebecca Gordon; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, February 24, 2025, from 10 AM to 12 Noon in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY. Funeral services will begin at 12 Noon in the funeral home. Rev. Ruth Sellers-Ward will officiate.
