Joan E. Barkley of Liberty, NY, a retired Vice-President - Claims Manager for Frontier Insurance, Rock Hill, NY, and a lifelong area resident died Friday, June 6, 2014 at her home. She was 75.
The daughter of the late James A. and Anne E. McCormack McGuire, she was born May 28, 1939 in Liberty, NY.
Joan was a communicant of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Liberty, NY; she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Neversink Fire Department; a volunteer for Hospice for several years; and she was name Woman of Distinction by the late State Senator Charles Cook. Joan was a member of the Catskill Horsemen's Association; an expert witness for Horse Racing Insurance Fraud; and she raised quarter horses and paddocked at Monticello Raceway.
Despite her physical disability, she excelled as an insurance executive, horse woman, writer, volunteer, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Survivors include two sons, James Greenhall and his wife Jennifer Lynn of Accord, NY and Terence Greenhall and his wife Suzanne of Medical Lake, WA; one sister, Theresa Bull and her husband Raymon of Roscoe, NY; two grandsons, Liam Greenhall and Grant Lee Greenhall; one granddaughter, Madison Greenhall; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Charles Greenhall.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 11, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 11:45 AM in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 264 North Main Street, Liberty, NY. Father Edward Bader will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Liberty, NY.
Memorial contributions in Joan's name may be made to St. Aloysius Church, Church St. Livingston Manor, NY 12758.
