Joanne Catherine (Hallenbeck) Quick of Gainesville, FL, formerly of Roscoe, NY, a retired artist and librarian, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Lake City Medical Center, Lake City FL. She was 91. Her passing was Covid 19 related, but we also believe that it was from a broken heart. Joanne lost her husband Tom, of 69 years, in October of last year. She missed him so much.
The daughter of the late Garrett and Mildred (Farrell) Hallenbeck, she was born September 28, 1930 in Brooklyn NY.
Raised in Teaneck NJ she graduated from Art School, enjoying city life. Her parents had a cottage on Lake Muskoday where she met the love of her life. The story goes, Tom took Joanne out of the city and made her a country girl! Tom and Joanne lived a happy life in Roscoe till 2016, when Tom finally gave in and moved to St; Augustine Florida. It was time to enjoy some sunshine and no more snow.
Joanne was a passionate reader, which reflected in the jobs she held as assistant RSC librarian and then Director of the Roscoe Free Library. Prior to moving to Roscoe, she took her art education she received from Parsons & Traphagen Art Schools, drawing live models for JC Penny Women’s Catalog before photographs became the way of the world.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. Joanne loved working out in her flower garden and enjoying the view from their backyard of the Junction Pool.
Joanne & Tom loved to entertain and go out dancing, and what dancers they were. She so enjoyed getting together with her friends to play their weekly bridge games. Her priority was always her family – period – as she would always say.
Survivors include one son, Thomas G. Quick and his wife Sharon; one daughter, Karen J. Francis and her fiancé Stephen Centauro; her grandchildren, Kimberly Quick and her husband Greg Buzby, Krista Quick and her fiancé Zack Stanley, Courtney Mueller and her husband Richard and Cody Francis; two great granddaughters, Mira Jade Buzby and Jo Cynthia Mueller; her sister-in-law, Cathy Rice; and seven nephews and one niece, all who adored her.
Burial and graveside services will be held for both Tom and Joanne on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 1 PM at the Riverview Cemetery, Roscoe, NY.
Memorial contributions, in Joanne’s name, can be made to the Roscoe Free Library, 85 Highland Ave. Roscoe, NY 12776.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave. Roscoe, NY 607-498-4929 or 845-439-5200 www.Harris-FH.com
