John Jay Horton of Cooks Falls, NY, a retired Secure Treatment Aide for Broome Development Center in Binghamton, NY and a lifelong area resident, passed away Thursday, October 20, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. He was 49.
The son of Arthur N. and Barbara A. Shaw Horton, he was born August 31, 1967 in Walton, NY.
John was a former member of the Cooks Falls-Horton Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife Mary Jo Horton of Cooks Falls, NY; three daughters, Katelyn Horton, Kerry Horton, and Ceili Horton all of Cooks Falls, NY; one son, Jackson Horton of Cooks Falls, NY; his parents, Arthur and Barbara Horton of Cooks Falls, NY; two brothers, Thomas Horton and his wife Beth of Fishs Eddy, NY and Andrew Horton and his wife Peggy of Grahamsville, NY; two sisters, Karen Hudson and her husband Phillip of Rock Hill, NY and Lorraine Rosencranse and her husband Lee of Cooks Falls, NY; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave. Roscoe, NY.
Graveside services and burial will be Friday, October 28, 2016 at 11 AM in the Horton Cemetery, Horton, NY. John's family will gather with friends and family at the Courtyard on Rockland Road in Roscoe, following the commital service.
In lieu of flowers it is asked that donations be made to the John Horton High Point Memorial Scholarship. Donations can be sent to the Wayne County Bank in Roscoe, NY (former Bank of America) and made payable to the John Horton High Point Memorial Scholarship, c/o of Katelyn or Mary Jo Horton.
