John P. McPhillips of Parksville passed away on December 19, 2024 at the age of 76. He was born in the Bronx, NY to the late John and Florence (Daly) McPhillips. John grew up in Washington Heights, NY and attended Incarnation Grammer School and St. Helens High School. He was very proud of his Irish roots from County Cavan, Ireland.
John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia. Their long-lasting marriage was built by two people who believed in and lived by the solemn promise they made September 30, 1972. John is survived by his three sons. John (Cheryl) of Delmar, NY, Michael (Karen) of Liberty, NY and Brian (Jennifer) of Parksville, NY. His moral compass, work ethic and dedication to his family served as a role model for his boys. John also leaves behind his sister Sheila Healy of Pine Bush, NY and brother Vincent (Joanne) of Parksville, NY and was predeceased by his sister, Maureen Nolan of Parksville, NY. He was a beloved Poppy to Kristen, Emily, Aidan, Andrew, Mairead, Nicholas and Keira. He leaves behind his nieces and nephews. Cousins both State side and across the pond. John began his career in Maintenance and Electrical working at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, New York, NY for 17 years. After moving up to Sullivan County John worked at VFW and Sullivan County BOCES before taking his employ at Liberty Central Schools, retiring after 34 years of service. With his vast knowledge in the electrical field John taught Electrical Trade school for many years and held the Electrical License for the Liberty School District. John was most proud of his many years representing the Liberty Employees Association as Union President. John was proud to represent his department and worked very hard to keep them recognized and paid a proper wage for the work they performed.
An avid outdoorsman and New York Yankee fan John was a past real estate agent, member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Cronin Council, and a founding member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians. He was a communicant of St. Peters Church in Liberty, NY.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 10 AM to 1 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 1:15 PM in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 264 No. Main Street, Liberty, NY. Father Edward Bader will officiate.
Memorial contributions in John’s name can be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
