John Andrew Moorhead, Jr., of Hankins, NY, formerly of Emerson, NJ, a retired wedding photographer for Walker's Studio in Yonkers, NY, died Thursday, September 8, 2016 at his home. He was 97.
The son of the late John Andrew, Sr. and Margaret Gildea Moorhead, he was born July 5, 1919 in Bronx, NY. John proudly served Our County in the US Air Force in World War II serving in Iwo Jima as a radar operator for night fighter missions and later served during the Korean Conflict; and he was a communicant of Assumption Church in Emerson, NJ. John resided in Emerson, NJ since 1957 until moving to his country home in Hankins, NY, a few years ago. He was an avid reader, a dedicated master gardener, and a passionate windsurfer from age 60 to 90; he was a sailor well into his 90's.
He was the loving father of Patricia Moorhead of the Catskill Mountains; Jeanne Moorhead of NJ; two sons, Thomas Moorhead of NJ and Michael Moorhead and his wife Hope of TX; and loving grandfather of Meghan Moorhead. He was predeceased by his wife Martha Tarantino in 2007, whom he married in 1948; and one brother David in 1945.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Monday, September 12, 2016 at 10:15 AM in Assumption Catholic Church, Emerson, NJ. Father Chris Isinta will officiate. Burial will be in the Westwood Cemetery, Emerson, NJ.
