John T. Powell

John T. Powell of Bronx, NY, formerly of Sullivan and Orange Counties, died Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at the Bronx Veterans Administration Hospital in Bronx, NY. He was 74.

The son of Annie Powell and the late Andrew Powell, he was born September 1, 1950 in Macon, GA.

John proudly served Our Country in the US Army from 1969 – 1971. He was a retired Corrections Officer for the City of New York and had worked at Riker’s Island. He is a former member of the Middletown Vol. Fire Company and the American Legion. He was an avid fisherman.

Survivors include two sons, John D. Powell of Newburgh, NY and Keith Alexander Powell of No. Carolina; one daughter, Leila C. Powell of Covington, GA; his mother, Annie Powell of Long Island City, NY; three brothers, Andrew Powell and his wife Emily of Utica, NY, Darrel Powell of Manhattan, NY and Patrick Powell of Long Island City, NY; five grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and several cousins.

Dignified cremation is being provided by Harris Crematorium, LLC.

Graveside service and burial with military honors will be in the Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen, NY on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 1 PM.
