John Powers

John P. Powers of Grahamsville, NY, a retired highway superintendent for the Town of Neversink and a long time area resident, died Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, NY. He was 76.

The son of the late James and Mary Marino Powers, he was born July 20, 1937 in Bronx, NY.

John was a member and a past chief of the Neversink Fire Department; a Communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church, Woodbourne, NY; and a member of the NYS Highway Superintendent Association.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Vontoussaint Powers, at home; two sons, James Foster of Grahamsville, NY and Michael Foster and his wife Tina of Grahamsville, NY; one daughter, Connie Duquette and her husband William "Duke" of Grahamsville, NY; two brothers, James Powers of Reno, NV and Francis Powers of Bronx, NY; five grandchildren, Michael Foster, James Foster, Heather Foster, Kayla Connelly and her husband James, and Samantha Duquette; one brother-in-law and his best buddy, William Vontoussaint and his wife Sara.

He was predeceased by one brother, William Powers; and one sister, Nancy Lauria.

A celebration of John's life and firematic services will commence on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 1 pm and will continue with a respite until 4 pm at the Neversink Fire Hall, 7486 State Rte. 55, Neversink, NY. Father Joseph Juracek will officiate.

Burial was in the Sullivan County Veteran's Cemetery, Liberty, NY.
