Joseph Woods

Joseph C. Woods of Liberty, NY, a retired civil engineer and land surveyor and a long time area resident, died Thursday, July 20, 2017 at his home. He was 92.

The son of the late Francis J. and Helen Regan Woods, he was born July 12, 1925 in Boston, MA.

Joseph served Our Country in the US Marine Corps,4th Marine Division during WW11 and was an Iwo Jima survivor,  he is a former member of the Clarence V. Hoyt VFW Post # 9217; a member of the New York State Surveyors Association; a member of the American Civil Engineers Association; and a graduate of North Eastern University in Boston, MA.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Ginny Woods, at home; three daughters, Linda Smith and her husband G. Michael of Biloxi, MS, Patty DeVoe and her husband Kim of White Sulphur Springs, NY, and Claudia Straniere and her husband Mike of Watervliet, NY; four sons, Michael Woods and his wife Jane of Liberty, NY, Steve Woods and his wife Kathy of Medical Lake, WA, David Woods and his wife Lisa of Simsbury, CT and Tom Cronk and his wife Beth of Livingston Manor, NY; a daughter in law, Sharon Cronk of Rome, NY; a sister in law, Marilyn Woods of FL; 14 grandchildren, Joy, Ryan, Kris, Robbie, Jen, Nigel, Matt, Becky, Dan, Christopher, Andrew, Jordan, Brooke and Scott; seven great grandchildren, Kori, Grace, Siena, Nick, Drew, Danielle and Jude; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one son, Robert Cronk; one brother, Frank Woods; one grandson, Gregory; and five sisters, Helen, Dorothy, Evelyn, Phyllis, and Margaret.

Memorial visitation will be held Saturday,  August 12, 2017 from 10 to 11 at the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

Memorial services will be at 11AM in the funeral home.

Burial with military honors will be in the Sullivan County Veteran's Cemetery, Liberty, NY.  Immediately following the service.
