Joyce Townsend

Joyce Townsend of Downsville, NY, a retired Lab Technician Supervisor for Margaretville Hospital, Margaretville, NY and a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, February 2, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 80.

The daughter of the late Morris and Leona Sliter Hadden, she was born July 13, 1932 in Margaretville, NY.

Joyce was a member of the Town of Colchester Democratic Committee and was the Delaware County Democrat of the Year in 2003; she was a Town of Colchester Councilman for several years; a member of the Colchester Historical Society; a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the James S. Moore American Legion Post #167; and a lifetime member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Downsville, NY. She was an avid golfer and got a hole in one on July 10, 1991 at Hidden Water Golf Course in Margaretville, NY; she was an artist, enjoyed sewing, and was very active in politics.

Survivors include four daughters, Patricia Hoag and her husband Randy of Livingston Manor, NY, Pamela Otero of Livingston Manor, NY, Nancy Howard and her husband Nelson of Walton, NY, and Lisa Emerich and her husband Craig, Jr. of Downsville, NY; her step children, David, Jody, Beth, Amy and Danny; one uncle, Donald Hadden and his wife Pauline of Stamford, NY; two sisters-in-law, Katy Townsend of Downsville, NY and Ellen Tompkins and her husband Skip of Downsville, NY; two brothers-in-law, Robert Cable of Downsville, NY and Alan Champlin of Downsville, NY; 20 Grandchildren; 15 Great Grandchildren; and special family members, Bobby and Sally Van Keuren and Carol Coltrain.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Willard "Chip" Townsend; and her second husband, Stuart Williams; and one grandson, Adam Lasky.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 6, 2013 from 4-7 PM in the Harris Funeral Home Railroad Ave. Roscoe, NY.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the James S. Moore American Legion Post # 167 will conduct services Wednesday evening at 7 PM in the funeral home.

Funeral services will be Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 11 AM in the Colchester Community Church, Downsville, NY. Father Michael Shank will officiate.

Burial will be in Paige Cemetery, Downsville, NY in the Spring.
