Judith Herbst

Judith A. Herbst, age 78, devoted mother, beloved grandmother, great grandmother and longtime area resident of Liberty, NY passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 after a long, brave battle with cancer.

Judith was born in Port Chester, NY on January 25, 1940, to the late Arthur and Anna Marie Lehner Herbst.  She graduated from Port Chester High School, Class of 1957.  Upon graduating, she went to work for the local phone company for a number of years until she left to start her family of five children.

Judi enjoyed all of life’s simple pleasures.  She was unbelievably kind, caring and selfless, always putting others first.  She was an amazing grandmother who looked after her five grandchildren when they were babies.  She was an avid gardener who passionately cared for her flowers, vegetables and plants.  She enjoyed nature and all of its creations.  She loved the wildlife in her yard, feeding the birds and caring for the cats she rescued.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children, daughter Laura Notarbartolo and her Fiancé Sean Zampino of Wappingers Falls, NY; daughter Tanja Driever of Congers, NY; sons Erick and John Sellstrom, both of Liberty, NY; her brother, Brian Herbst and his wife Donna of Poughquag, NY; grandchildren, Marissa, Michael, Tara, Shane and Joshua; and great grandchildren, Zachary, Gavin, Sophia and Sienna.  She was predeceased by her daughter Deborah Sellstrom of Liberty, NY, and her brother Arthur “Skipper” Herbst of Mamaroneck, NY.

The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thanks to all the nurses and staff at Emerald Peak Nursing & Rehabilitation, Peekskill, NY.  Judi’s “angels” Sandy and Doreen attentively cared for her with great compassion and empathy which made a world of difference in her quality of life.

A family graveside service and burial will take place on March 16, 2018 at 4:00 PM, at Liberty Cemetery in Liberty, NY.  Father Edward Bader will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in memory of Judith’s name, to the American Heart Association www.heart.org.
