Judy L. Lavelle

Judy Laurene Lavelle of Liberty, NY, a homemaker and lifelong area resident, died Monday, October 7, 2024 at her home. She was 83.

The daughter of the late Herbert V. and Helen Elizabeth Smith Cahill, she was born July 16, 1941 in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Judy attended Chestnut St. Elementary School and South Junior High School when her family moved to Newburgh, NY. She graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1959 and attended Orange County Community College. Judy was a member of the Liberty Central PTA, St. Peter’s Mothers Club, Liberty Woman’s Club, Liberty Jaycees, Community General Hospital Auxillary, the United Methodist Church of Liberty, and was a State Jaycee chairperson. She was a devoted caregiver to her late husband, Robert.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Lavelle and his wife Christine of Rochester, NY and Stephen Lavelle and his special friend, Pamela Polick of Liberty, NY; one daughter, Susan Beth Lavelle of Middletown, NY; her granddaughter, Kathryn Hollon of Plano, TX; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, Robert David Lavelle; her son, Timothy David Lavelle; and her sister Karen Cobey.

Graveside services were held privately.
