Julianne Elizabeth Marks Allen of Roscoe, NY passed away at home, surrounded by her family on Friday, September 14th, 2012 after a 23 year battle with cancer. She was 67.

Julie was born in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Roscoe with her family in 1947. She married her high school sweetheart and continued to call Roscoe her home. Julie received an Associate of Science degree in Business Administration from Becker College in Massachusetts before obtaining her license in cosmetology. In addition, she studied at the famed L'Oreal School in Paris, France and received two diplomas, one for color and one for permanents. She owned and operated a very successful Uni-Sex hairdressing salon for 30 years. She was involved with many organizations in her lifetime. For several years she served as the Town of Rockland's Youth Committee Chairman for the Roscoe Central School District. She served as a board member on the Sullivan County Community College Foundation Scholarship Committee and also on the Board of Directors for Sullivan-Wawarsing Rural Economic Area Partnership Corporation. She has spent the last 40 years of her life as a respected member of the Sullivan County Democratic Committee and will be honored at the 95th Jeffersonian Dinner. She has been an elected member of the NYS Democratic Committee for the last 25 years, an honor which is held by only two Sullivan County citizens. For the last 18 years, she has worked with Congressman Maurice Hinchey as his congressional liaison to Sullivan County. She also just received the honor of SCCC "2012 Women Who Make a Difference" award for her lifetime dedication of volunteerism to the county. She spent most of her life dedicated to helping everyone.

She is survived by her beloved husband Don of 47 years; daughter Laurie Allen-Kuehn of Roscoe, her husband Perry and her granddaughter Elizabeth Julianne; son Michael Allen of Callicoon, NY, his wife Kori and her grandchildren Caden and Taylor; sister Re Marks of Springfield, NJ; nieces Jillian Marks of Springfield, NJ; Amy Marks of Wilmington, DE; Michelle Griffth of Cochranville, Pa; Merrily Lynch of Cochecton, NY; Judy Bennett of Downsville, NY; Debbie Forsblom of Checotak, OK; nephew Frankie Wood of Walton, NY; sister-in-laws Shirley Wood of Roscoe, Sue Marks of Chester, PA, and Patty Hendrix of Virginia Beach , VA; and many great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Martin and Eleanor Marks and brother Steve Marks.

Visitation will be Friday, September 21st 2-4 pm & 6-9 pm at the Harris Funeral Home on Railroad Avenue in Roscoe, NY. Funeral Services will be Saturday the 22nd at 11:11 am in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Beaverkill Cemetery, Beaverkill, NY.
