Leo Bertholf of DeLand, FL, formerly of Liberty, NY, died Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at the Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia in Orange City, FL. He was 85.
The son of the late Benjamin and Loretta Cypert Bertholf, he was born June 9, 1927 in Divine Corners, NY.
Leo proudly served Our Country in the US Army during WW II; he worked for 21 years as a heavy equipment operator for the Town of Liberty Highway Department and retired in 1982. In 1984, Leo and Alice made Florida their home; there he worked as a courier for Cablevision Industries. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus # 6274, the American Legion, and the Liberty Hose and Truck # 2. Leo enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends; he was a very caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Alice Bertholf, at home; four daughters, Sharon Kortright and her husband Gary of Neversink, NY, Denise Doucette and her husband Jim of Lockney, TX, Phyllis Bertholf and her companion David Page of Wrightstown, NJ, and Nancy Bertholf of Charlotte, NC; one son, Keith Bertholf and his wife Lisa of Deland, FL; ten grandchildren, Michael Kortright and his wife Sarah, Amanda Hulsey and her husband Bill, Patrick Doucette, Jessica Stevens, Jared Bertholf, Ryan Bertholf, Kayla Page, April Page, Ashley Whitaker, and Rachel Whitaker; four great grandchildren, Maddison and Sean Hulsey, and Isabell and Dominic Inzerma; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by six brothers, William, Marvin, Deedrick, Raymond, Albert, and Kenneth; and two sisters, Loretta Muthig and Bertha "Betty" Allison.
A Memorial Mass and Celebration of his life will be Friday, June 28, 2013 at 11:45 AM in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church 264 No. Main Street, Liberty, NY. Monsignor Edward Straub will officiate.
Burial will be in the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery, Route 55, Grahamsville, NY.
