Marie Edwards

Marie was born Alice Marie Edwards on July 11, 1937 to George McKeen and Alice Jane (Hunt) Edwards and died peacefully on September 26, 2016. She was 79 years old.

Marie worked as a waitress at the Lenape Hotel in Liberty until it closed, and from the early 1960's until 2012 she and her sister Dory (Theodora) ran a successful laundry business from their home. She is best known however, for being a loving "second mother" to countless children. She was happiest in the delight of young children and that love was returned by all.

She is survived by her brother John (wife Joan) of Parkston, sixteen of nineteen nieces and nephews, Kathleen Vause, Starr Stashek, Debra Lynker, Douglas Edwards, F. Karen Shoot, Sharman Bayliss, David Edwards, Thomas Edwards, Timothy Edwards, Laura Cornish, Eugene Blair, Janie Bagley, Jaylene Blair, Joshua Blair, Melanie Jenne and Joy Marshall. Also, several great nieces and nephews, four great-great nieces and a large extended family of those children she cared for through the years, especially her "son", Stephen Semo.

She was predeceased by six siblings Theodore, Theodora, Emanuel, Vernon, Virgil Edwards, and Bertha Blair, three nephews, Jeff, John and T. Steven Edwards and one great nephew Adam Erickson.

The family would like to offer special, heartfelt thanks to Dr. Manuel Perry and the nurses at Catskill Regional Medical Center's infusion unit, Ann, Kathy, Laurie, Glorianne, and especially her dear friend Mary O'Shea-Siegel. They all went above and beyond to provide excellent care with compassion.

Visitation will be Thursday October 6, 2016 from 4pm-7pm at the Harris Funeral Home, West Street at Buckley, Liberty, N.Y. A celebration of Marie's Christian life will be held at the White Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church on Friday October 7, 2016 at 10:00am. Interment will be in the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery.
