Mary Volckens

Mary A. Volckens of Liberty, NY, a retired bookkeeper and a long-time area resident died Monday, January 11, 2021 at her home.  She was 85.

The daughter of the late William and Mary Tiernan Culliton, she was born March 25, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY.

Mary was a communicant of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, where she served as a lector and Eucharistic Minister; she had been a member of the Catholic Daughters and St. Peter’s Rosary Society; a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary; and a foster grandparent at Liberty Central School since 1997.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary Kapicic of Charlotte, NC, Kathleen Volckens of Queens, NY and Loretta Gillen and her husband Kevin of Charlotte, NC; six grandchildren, Raina, Michelle, Lauren, Bryan, Samantha and Jack; two great grandchildren, Gavin and Axel; one sister, Katherine McAleer; and one sister-in-law, Grace Culliton.

She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Volckens in 2001; and two sons, Henry and Matthew.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 14, 2021 from 4 to 7 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 15, 2021 at 11 AM in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 264 No. Main Street, Liberty, NY.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Liberty, NY.

Memorial contributions in Mary’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
