Merton Lockhart, Jr.

Merton C. Lockhart, Jr. of Grahamsville, NY passed away peacefully on April 30, 2018. He was 88. The son of the late Dr. Merton C. Lockhart, Sr. and Mary Ann McNally. He was born April 15, 1930 in Nyack, NY.

Mert was a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He was a building contractor and worked in construction. He enjoyed snowmobiling and was active in the community with the Tri-Valley Lions, Sullivan County Historic Society, and Town of Neversink Planning Board. He loved to swim and competed in the Senior Olympic Games and Empire State Games, winning many medals. He loved to watch old movies with his wife Joyce. His greatest passion was his love for wildlife. He spent many hours bird watching and feeding the deer.

He is survived by his son Gary Lockhart and his wife Teri; his daughter Pamela Zanetti and her husband Keith; four grandchildren, Amy Hicks (Charlie), Tara Poje, Kelsi Luczyski (David) and Wade Lockhart; six great grandchildren, Cecelia, Anthony, Kane, Vinny, Joey, and Diem all of Grahamsville, NY.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 3, 2018 from 6-8pm at Harris Funeral Home West Street at Buckley, Liberty, NY. Burial will be private at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Nanuet, NY.

Memorial contributions in Mert’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
