Nancy Warner

With broken hearts we announce the passing of Nancy Hazel Warner of Moira. Nancy passed away on May 19, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

The daughter of the late J.C. (Bump) Hourihan and Dorothy (Gibbs) Hourihan, she was born August 19, 1937 on the family farm in Moira, NY. As a young girl, she was an avid horseback rider and would ride all over the North Country with her childhood friends. During her elementary years, she attended a one room schoolhouse less than two miles from the farm. We always listened to her tales of how “in her day” she walked to school and on days with really bad weather, a horse drawn carriage would pick her up and take her to school. Nancy graduated from Moira High School in June of 1956.

On December 22, 1956 Nancy married her high school sweetheart, Peter Warner. Together they took over the family farm, from her parents, and made it their home to raise a family. Many treasured memories were made on that homestead that will forever be held dear to their children, their children’s friends, as well as Peter and Nancy’s many nieces and nephews. Nancy remained on the family farm for almost 70 years.

Along with the duties that go along with a farm wife, Nancy also worked outside the home. In earlier years, she held positions at Kinney Drugs, Goodman’s and ACME markets. In the 1970’s Nancy went to work at the Crossroads in Moira where she made many lasting friendships. She later went on to run the Crossroads Gift Shop; her love of gift shops remained, as one of her favorite things to do was to spend a day traveling around the area visiting all the little shops. Upon the death of her husband Peter in 2001, Nancy filled his position as a Moira Town Councilman, for several years. In the later years, she worked part time for Hannaford Supermarkets presenting samples to customers; this always gave her a chance to see and visit with long lost friends. Her final job was that of a monitor at Brushton-Moira Central High School where she always enjoyed the camaraderie with the students and staff alike.

Nancy had many great friends with whom she enjoyed bus trips, vacations, and most recently monthly luncheons. She always enjoyed getting her whole family together; a backyard BBQ on a nice day was always at the top of her list.

She will be deeply missed by her loving family; her daughters, JoAnne Foley, Mary Bilow and companion Jeff Dana; her son, Peter Warner Jr. and wife Dawn; her late daughter Kim’s fiancé, Larry White; her grandchildren, Amanda Barse and husband Michael, Cody Bilow and companion Alyshia Binion, Jesse Bilow, and Kaitlynn Warner; her great-grandchildren Dustin, Preston, Mason and Roslyn Barse; her sister-in-law, Constance Hourihan; her brother-in-law, Glen Warner; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Peter Warner; her daughter,  Kim Warner; one grandson, Dylan Bilow; two brothers, Joseph and Jerry Hourihan; one brother-in-law, Tholow Warner; and one son-in-law, Randy Foley.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, May 23, 2021 from 4 to 7PM at the Flint Funeral Home, State Route 95, Moira, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Monday, May 24, 2021 at 1PM in St. Mary’s Church, Brushton, NY.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gale Road, Brushton, NY.

Memorial donations may be made in Nancy’s name to the Moira Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department, 2340 County Route 5, Moira, New York, 12957.
