On Thursday November 21, 2024 the angels took Paula M. Niles of East Dickinson, New York, home to be with God and her deceased loved ones. Being ill for only three weeks she passed peacefully under the care of Hospice, at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland.
Paula was born in Malone, New York on June 13, 1953, the daughter of Paul and Alice Goyea Follett. She attended Brushton-Moira Central School and graduated in 1971. She then attended Mater Dei College in Ogdensburg, and State University of New York at Potsdam, graduating in 1975.
She was married to her high school sweetheart, Terry Niles, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brushton on December 20, 1975, he survives. Also surviving are three sons, Paul Niles and his wife Brandi of Northeast, Maryland, Ryan Niles and his wife Lara of Hannawa Falls, New York, and Graham Niles and his wife Jamie of Cumberland Head, New York; three sisters, Jill Agne of Syracuse, Jody Southworth of Malone, and Jacqueline Harris of Roscoe, New York; her grandchildren Cole, Ryan Tom, Mason, Cora, Sydney, and Vayda; and several nieces and nephews.
Her family was the most important part of her life. She was extremely proud of all her children and grandchildren, exhibiting a limitless passion to be with them at every opportunity.
Paula loved her home in East Dickinson and camp at Lake Ozonia. At home she spent much of her time gardening, sewing, quilting, knitting, and especially baking. As part of her hobbies she maintained a pie stand, making well over a thousand pies a year, including providing pies for several local restaurants. She enjoyed traveling to Florida, the Outer Banks in North Carolina, and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
Paula was a junior high math teacher for several years, retiring in 1999. She was a past member of the Brushton-Moira Home Bureau. She also served on the Brushon-Moira Board of Education for two terms.
This loss will be deeply felt by her family for some time to come, while the memories of her love of family, and selfless kindness to others will help comfort the pain.
Calling hours will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon Monday December 2, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brushton, N.Y.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday December 2, 2024 at 12:00 noon. Father Francis Flynn will officiate.
