Raymond Muthig

Raymond Muthig of Neversink, NY, a retired iron worker for Local 417, Newburgh, NY and a lifelong area resident died Monday, February 13, 2017 at his home. He was 84.

The son of the late Jerome and Nellie Grant Muthig, he was born September 20, 1932 in Neversink, NY.

Raymond had been a member of the American Legion; a member of the Liberty Elks Lodge # 1545; a member of the Sullivan County Federation of Sportsman; a member of the Aden Hunting Club; a member of the Neversink-Rondout Antique Tractor and Machinery Club; and a member of the Cornell Cooperative Extension. He was a founder of the Time in the Valley Museum and had worked on the construction of the Daniel Pierce Library, building it from the ground up. Ray and Dot ran Muthig Farm and produced maple syrup alongside their two sons.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Murray Muthig, at home; two sons, Dennis Muthig and his wife Linda of Neversink, NY and Gary Muthig and his wife Sandra of Neversink, NY; nine grandchildren, Gary Magie, Jennifer Muthig, Christopher Muthig, Raymond Muthig (Carrie), Andrew Muthig, Gregory Muthig, Stephen Carpenter (Jennille), and Patrick Carpenter (Keri); his great grandchildren, Julia Magie, Peyton Marie Carpenter and Bryce William Carpenter; one sister, Annette Brown; one brother Paul Muthig and his wife Cheryl; three sisters-in-law, Joyce Muthig, Beverly Muthig, and June Muthig; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by many brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 4-7 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

Burial will be in the Hodge Hill Cemetery, Neversink, NY in the Spring.
