Regina H. Wagner

Regina Hanretta Wagner of Jeffersonville, NY, a beloved wife, mother, sister, friend, retired educator, and long-time area resident died on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was 73.

The daughter of the late Lawrence and Regina Meyers Hanretta, she was born February 7, 1951 in Cornwall, NY.

Regina had a fulfilling 33 year career in the field of education, shaping young lives as an English teacher and a high school guidance counselor. She devoted herself to the Jeffersonville-Youngsville, Liberty, Sullivan West, and Sullivan County BOCES school systems, where she always put students first. Whether advising the Enrichment Club, leading her Saturday Night Out initiative, or helping students prepare for their futures with the On Our Way to College Club, she believed in every young person’s potential and did everything she could to help them succeed. Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support made a lasting impact on generations of students.

Beyond education, Regina’s passion for service shone brightly. She was an active member of JEMS (Jeffersonville Enhances Main Street), served on the board of Ride2Survive, and was a former member of the Sullivan West Board of Education and communicant of St. Francis Church.

Regina cherished her family and friends, and her spirit lives on through her survivors. She shared a beautiful life with her husband, Steven Michael Wagner, and found immense joy in their two daughters and partners, Sarah Kate Wagner and Binayak Mishra of New York City and DeBruce, NY, and Andrea Paige Wagner and Edwin Cho of Los Angeles, CA. She was a devoted sister and sister-in-law to Cathy Hanretta, Charles and Dee Hanretta, William Hanretta, and Joan Wagner, and a loving aunt to Bridget O’Brien, Kelly Hanretta, Charles Jr. and Patrick Hanretta, Ron Cyr, Lorren Laffoon, and Michelle Estensorro. She is also survived by many dear friends and extended family members who she embraced as her own.

She was preceded by her parents Lawrence and Regina Hanretta, her brother, Lawrence Hanretta, and sister-in-law Hazel Hanretta.

Regina’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and unwavering generosity. She had a way of making everyone feel seen, heard, and valued, and always offered a listening ear, thoughtful advice, or a warm hug. Her love will live on in the community she served, the family and friends she cherished, and the many students whose lives she touched. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
