Richard Lacey

Richard G. Lacey of Downsville, NY, a retired laborer for Local #7 and a lifelong area resident died Monday, February 13, 2017 at his home, his daughters by his side. He was 79.

The son of the late George and Beatrice Fuller Lacey he was born December 31, 1937 in

Readburn. Richard was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Downsville where he and his late wife, Marilou, were married in 1959; he was a member of the Downsville Fire Department; a member of the O&Y Hunting Club; and a 50 year member of Local #7. Richard enjoyed hunting and fishing, digging ginseng, pitching horseshoes, telling jokes and playing tricks on people. His favorite pastime and means of providing for his family was working in the stone quarry. He always said the view was so spectacular, he felt closer to God than most of us in church in the Valley on a Sunday. To him it was "his church".

Survivors include his daughters, Julie Markert and her husband Thomas of Downsville, NY and Dawn D'Addezio and her husband Chris of Downsville, NY; one brother, Earl Lacey and his wife Jessie; two grandsons, Thomas Market, II and Stephanie and Garrett D'Addezio and Tanicia; two granddaughters, Crystal Wood and her husband Brett and Brittany Kirchner and her husband Troy; two great grandsons, Brantley and Silas; and one great granddaughter, Laurel Marilou; a special niece Michele and her husband Mikal and a special nephew, Kenny Young and his wife Janice and all of their children as well as several other nieces and nephews; and his dog, Boomer.

He was predeceased by his wife Marilou Lacey on June 1, 2016; one daughter, Diane Rose Lacey in 1979; his brothers, Leonard, Lewis, and John; and two sisters, Grace and Janet.

Visitation will be Monday, February 20, 2017 from 11 AM to 1 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave. Roscoe, NY.

Funeral services will be Monday, February 20, 2017 at 1 PM in the funeral home. The Rev. Michael Shank will officiate.

Burial will be in the Paige Cemetery in the Spring.
