Robert Burns

Robert C. Burns of Liberty, NY, a retired Corrections Officer for over 30 years for NYS Department of Corrections, Woodbourne, NY and a lifelong area resident died Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Roscoe Regional Rehab. and Residential Health Care Facility, Roscoe, NY. He was 87.

The son of the late Alfred J. and Ruth Green Burns, he was born October 20, 1929 in Livingston Manor, NY.

Bob proudly served Our Country as a Corporal in the US Army during the Korean War from 1950-52; he was a member and Past Captain of the Ontario Hose Company #3 - Liberty Fire Dept.; a member of the New York State RPEA; a member of the CO Breakfast Club; a member and past trustee of the Liberty Elks Lodge # 1545; and he had been a long time care taker of the Van Alstyne Star. Bob enjoyed wood working, remodeling and outdoor yard work.

Survivors include his wife Barbara A. Crossman Burns, at home; one son, Lyle R. Burns and his wife Alison of Liberty, NY; two grandchildren, Brandon Burns and Christina Burns; and many nieces and nephews of the Coney and Portz families.

He is predeceased by his sister, Helen Coney.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 31, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

Liberty Elks Lodge # 1545 will conduct services Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 7PM in the funeral home.

Firematic services will be conducted Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at at 7:15 PM in the funeral home.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 10 AM in the funeral home.  The Rev. Bridgette LeConey will officiate.

Burial will be in the Lew Beach Cemetery, Lew Beach, NY.

Memorial contributions in Bob's name may be made to the Livingston Manor United Methodist Church, PO Box 361, Livingston Manor, NY 12758 in honor of his grandparents, Charles and Edna Green.
