Robert J. Flynn of White Sulphur Springs, NY, a retired Lieutenant and Zone Commander for the New York State Police, Troop F in Ferndale, NY and a former Sullivan County Sheriff died Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at his home. He was 86.
The son of the late Robert J. and Millicent C. Schadt Flynn, he was born June 17, 1932 in Callicoon, NY.
Bob proudly served Our Country in the US Navy for four years on the USS Antietam Aircraft Carrier during the Korean War; he was a Communicant of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Liberty, NY; he had been active in several community organizations and had been a founding member of the Peters Hunting Club in Willowemoc, NY; he was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Ann Flynn of Boynton Beach, FL and Donna Flynn-Brown and her husband Thomas of Neversink, NY; one son, Robert J. Flynn, III and his wife Colleen of Fremont Center, NY; one sister, Susan Flynn-Kirchner and her husband Ralph of Milford, PA; eight grandchildren, Daniel Stabak and his wife Julie, Andrea Stabak, Catherine, Jesse and Alexander Brown, Morgan Hawkins, Hunter and Collin Flynn; two great grandchildren, Ava and Eden Stabak and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of fifty four years, Beverly A. Stechmann Flynn on April 27, 2014 and by a brother, Paul Flynn.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 14, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Harris Funeral Home West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 15, 2019 at 10 AM in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church 264 No. Main Street, Liberty, NY. Father Edward Bader will officiate.
Burial with military honors will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Youngsville, NY.
Memorial contributions in Bob's name may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Wounded Warrior Project P. O. Box 758517 Topeka, KS 66675.
